Bandwidth refers to the maximum rate at which data can travel through a network connection, typically measured in megabits per second (Mbps) or gigabits per second (Gbps). In the proxy industry, it is also the unit used to meter usage: residential and mobile proxy plans are almost universally sold by the gigabyte of bandwidth consumed, because each request passing through the provider's IP costs them real infrastructure and carrier resources. Datacenter proxies are often sold per-IP or per-thread rather than per GB because their bandwidth is much cheaper. Monitoring your bandwidth usage is essential to controlling proxy costs at scale.
