A residential proxy is an IP address assigned by a real Internet Service Provider to a residential customer's home internet connection. When you route traffic through a residential proxy, the destination website sees an ordinary household IP address — the same kind of IP a real person browsing from home would have. This makes residential proxies far harder to block than datacenter proxies, because blocking them risks also blocking legitimate users. Residential proxy networks are built by providers who partner with software applications (like free VPNs or apps) that enrol users' devices as proxy nodes in exchange for some benefit. Premium providers ethically source residential IPs with explicit user consent.
