A multi-hop VPN (also called double VPN or VPN chaining) routes encrypted traffic through two or more VPN servers in sequence. The first server sees your real IP but not your destination. The last server sees the destination but only the previous VPN server's IP, not your real one. This architecture means that even if one server is compromised or forced to log, it cannot provide both pieces of identifying information. While this offers stronger anonymity, it adds latency at each hop. Multi-hop is used in high-stakes privacy scenarios, not for performance-sensitive scraping.
